Annual Temple Square Lights Visit

The Teacher and Priests made their annual trip to see the Temple Square lights and watch Joseph Smith The Prophet of the Restoration – at the Joseph Smith Building. It is a very emotional movie to watch.

I'm not sure if the tears shed were due to the movie or Spencer Housekeeper falling down the stairs?

Disaster Master (Todd Jordan) took us on a tour of the OSHA Laboratory and Office in Salt Lake.  They (OSHA) tackle some pretty mean stuff.

Baptisms Feb '11

The teachers and priests went to the Ogden Temple to perform a little service. For some reason the priests ditched us before we could document their presence.

Eric George Eagle Project

Hooray for Eric. He has finished his project and packet prior to his 18th birthday. Now just his court of honor remaining. To summarize, Eric spearheaded a very worthwhile project of a drive of items to benefit orphans in Ethiopia. It was hugely successful that the amount collected is also being distributed to other orphanages across the world.
To date, two shipments have left. The first shipment to an orphanage in ethiopia who rescue children from tribes who believe kids are possessed with evil spirits if there top teeth come in before their bottom teeth. These kids are put to death in this situation if not for the rescue efforts of this orphanage. We were glad to help. The 2nd was an orphanage in Nicaragua. It was an all girls orphanage needing a variety of supplies.
This project has been worthwhile and keeps reaping rewards. We hope to spur future Eagle Projects from this great experience. We have requested pictures from the orphanages as the supplies are delivered. Keep an eye out for them.

Planning Retreat

Planning retreat for 2011 was a success. Thank you first to the Watts family for the use of the cabin. It would be hard to imagine how we would be able to accomplish everything without the great and warm facilities. This year was a first without snowmobiles. There was some angst among leaders about whether or not we would make it to the cabin with 4 wheelers. I glad to report no problems with the atv's and at the same time they worked well pulling kids behind with sleds and transporting them to the top of the sledding hill. I think the only ones stuck were Pres. Morris with his truck in the parking lot and Jon Hansen with the gator!
All the young men present received a great lesson from the bishop on chastity and morality. This was followed by a boost to each young man in his accomplishing the Duty to God certificate. We held a workshop to assist each young man with individual ideas and goals for their certificates. Can I add how impressed I am with the great leadership in the YM program. How lucky we are to have men continually testifying to the youth of gospel truths.
After the program, quorums separated and planned their entire year of calendars. This event always results in the majority of the year including campouts. Please remember you can see the entire years calendar at the bottom of the page as a tool to assisting your boys in preparing weekly to participate in the activities.
The entire Saturday morning was dedicated to play. The YM look forward to this and they had a blast. Thank you again to all who participated and assisted.

Sometimes its best to let you eyes adjust before heading out.

TREK 2010

Hoe Down For Trekkers

On Tuesday May 18th, the stake held a pre-trek activity. This was an opportunity to learn square dancing which would be again performed during our June Trek at Martin's Cove. Hansen Meadows had a good turnout of youth willing to leave their pride at the door and learn two new challenging dances.

Thanks to the Ma's and Pa's and several adult children who also attended and learned the dances. It was a fun time by all!

Preparing for Camp

As the young men prepare for camp this year the Bishopric and YM Presidency have a few reminders.

1. Each young man is asked to pay $150.00 toward the Young Men's Program. In keeping within the guidelines as published by the church pertaining to the financing of the Young Men's program, this money is to fund a one time camp for the year 2010. This is for scout camp for the Deacons and High Adventure for the Teachers & Priests. If you have paid the $55.00 fee for the upcoming trek, then the $150.00 can be reduced to $95.00. The coffers of the YM budget are low when it comes to supporting our young men in attending camp. Please pay ASAP. Although most parents pay this money, we ask that each young man is directed by the spirit and seek out opportunities to earn this money. Please feel free to contact the YM leadership for ideas or suggestions on earning this money.

2. If you are interested in having flags in your yard for the holidays, the money for the upcoming year is due now. The first holiday for flags is Memorial Day. This will be followed by many other flag days for the next year. To sign up, a donation to the scouting program of at least $30.00 is requested. This money will go specifically toward the payment of Scout Camp. Scout Camp is extremely expensive and this will only curb the costs incurred by the YM Program.

3. Each young man will be required to have an up to date physical in order to participate in our camping activities. These physicals are required every year. If they have an existing physical with a date that does not exceed the date of the activity, that physical may be submitted to their quorum leaders. If the physical is greater than one year old at the time of the activity then a new physical will be required. Please print off the form which is linked to this blog page under Church & Scouting Forms and follow the instructions. Please note the Teacher and Priest age young men will need all sections of the physical form completed in order to participate in High Adventure. Trek physicals will be accepted for High Adventure but must be attached to the required Scouting Physical Paperwork and submitted.

4. The merit badge classes for Aspen Ridge are quickly filling up. Please call ASAP to Jason VanAusdal to specify your intent to attend scout camp, your first 4 merit badge class requests, and two alternate merit badge requests.

Prophet Seeking 5/12/10

The teachers & priests had the privilege to travel to SLC. The intent of their visit was to visit Salt Lake City Cemetary & locate graves of the prophets and other prominent LDS figures.

With map in hand, they set out on the hunt. They loved the activity and quickly caught onto the monuments constructed for many of the prophets as markers of the graves they wanted to find.

During their search, they came across the one that was most important to them on this visit. As you may know, many of them have been participating in the Jesus the Christ reading at the leaders homes. Many spiritual experiences have been shared and young and powerful missionaries are being constructed. Most importantly, the testimony of the mission of Christ is swelling among each young man who attends and participates. The grave of James E. Talmage was found and the boys were reminiscent of the significance of their find.

This activity was one of many on the way to earning both their Duty to God and their A Trek to Remember Trail Award.

Hansen Meadows Young Men

Here is the first blog for the Young Men of the Hansen Meadows Ward of the Syracuse Bluff Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! We hope to provide updates and information for both the young men and their parents regarding all of the activities of the Young Men. We hope to provide and open channels of communication between the leadership of the Young Men's Presidency, the Bishopric, the young men, and the parents. In the near future, we will provide calandars of activities and future plans of the young men in both church activities and scouting activities. The goal of the Presidency and the other leaders of the young men is to have every young man be an Eagle Scout and receive their Duty to God award.

We enjoy to provide service and love to work for the Lord. We seek out opportunities to accomplish our goals throughout the year. We ask all of the parents to routinely discuss with their sons the status of their work. Much of the work cannot be done outside of the home. We require the assistance of all parents.

We love the Lord and enjoy the rich blessings bestowed upon us as faithful members of His Church. Our love is shared with each young man. We seek out the opportunity of sharing the Lord's sweet message with all who will listen. This is our daily prayer!
